How it works

Indomethacin has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. The mechanism of action of Indomethacin, like that of other NSAIDs, is not completely understood but involves inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2). Indomethacin is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis in vitro.

Liometacen Injection Usage And Safety

Side Effects

Gastro-intestinal bleeding , persistant headache ( discontinue if occur ) . Corneal deposits , retinal disturbances (perform periodic eye tests on long term use ) .

Drug Interactions

Salicylates , anticoagulants , lithium , corticosteroids , diuretics , beta-blocking , probenecid , quinolones .

Indication

It is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute painful episodes during inflammatory musculoskeletal disorders.

When not to Use

It is contraindicated in : -Children of less than 14 years old-Pregnancy and breast-feeding-Subjects with peptic ulcers or active gastro-intestinal ulcerative lesions or a history of recurrent gastro-intestinal ulcerative lesions -Known salicylate and indomethacin hypersensitivity-Epilepsy-Parkinson’s disease

Liometacen Injection Precautions

Precaution

Administration of the drug shortly before delivery can delay birth ; moreover, if administered during this period, the drug can cause haemodynamic alterations of the pulmonary circulation of the neonate, with serious consequences for respiration. As a result of interaction with the metabolism of arachidonic acid , in asthmatic and other sensitive subjects , the drug may cause bronchospasm attacks and even shock as well as other allergic phenomena.

Liometacen Injection Warnings

Warning 1

Particular care must be given to detecting as early as possible any gastrointestinal , ocular and nervous adverse reactions to the drug so that a prompt decision can be made as to whether it is advisable to interrupt treatment or , if necessary , continue with a lower dose.

Warning 2

During treatment , especially if prolonged , liver function and blood parameters should be checked regularly. Patients must be warned to strictly observe the dosage prescribed by the physician to avoid serious adverse reactions which might occur if this dose is increased.

Warning 3

As indomethacin can cause a sensation of confusion , vertigo and headache in some patients , this should be brought to the attention of all those who may drive any kind of vehicle or carry out operations which require particular vigilance.
